Our Heritage

The very first cooperative funeral home in Canada was established in Downtown Sudbury, at 73 Beech Street, in what was known as the Ducharme Funeral Home. While many followed suit and there remains many others across the country, we are the only remaining cooperative funeral home in Ontario.

The concept of a community-owned, non-profit cooperative funeral home was such a success that in 1963, we relocated to a newly constructed state-of-the-art location at 57 Notre Dame to meet the requirements of the community. As tremendous urban renewal projects were underway in the late 60s, a new location was created on the corner of Lasalle and Notre Dame, where we continue to operate today.

Soon thereafter, to continue to meet community demand, we expanded our services to the Chelmsford community by purchasing the J.A. Gratton Funeral Home on Main Street, and opened a new location on Regional Road 15 in 1972.

In 1994, we expanded to Valley East by opening our third location at 4570 St. Joseph Street.

Due to an overwhelming increase in the request for cremations and to better serve our clients; in 2013, we began the construction of our own new crematorium at our Chelmsford site, 4691 Regional Road 15.  We have been fully operational since May 2017.

Today, we continue our tradition of pursuing new ways to better service our members and our community.
