I was so sad to hear of Charlie’s passing. I first met Charlie when I joined the Ministry of Labour 20 years ago. Charlie was as passionate about Ontario Mine Rescue then as he was up to and after his retirement. I am sorry I could not be there today to personally extend my deepest sympathy to you Wendy and your family. Keep all the wonderful memories of the time you shared with Charlie close and may they give you some comfort in this difficult time. Candys

my deepest sympathies to Charle's Family and friends. I think of Charlie often when doing Mine Rescue, He was the "rock" that everyone turned to when questions couldn't be answered by others. I am very proud that Charlie was my First Mine Rescue Officer. I believed that he is reason that I have become the Mine Rescue Man that I am. He will be missed dearly.

Dear favorite brother-in-law (Charlie always did get a good chuckle when I called him that, as of course, he was my only one!),

When we met, 42 years ago, you were not overly impressed with me. I soon came to realize, that you were just being protective of your baby brother. We had really good "discussions" you and I. I remember Poppa saying, Thank God, you too did not meet and marry!!! Over the years, we both matured, and got to share our ideas, and opinions, without arguing. I loved that you loved Brian so much, and also were such a good uncle to Danyka and Sabryna. They have such fond memories of the time they spent with you. Brian and I will never forget the time you were able to spend with us in Florida. How he enjoyed sitting in the carport with you, chatting, drinking american beer, and of course teasing Wendy and I. We were so looking forward to our trip to Jamaica with you. We promise we will convince Wendy to come with us, and we will toast you, dear Charlie. I will miss you Charlie,

I am deeply saddened by this news! Charlie was my trainer in Mine Rescue for many years! He will truly be missed! My deepest sympathies go out to the Burton family. He was a wonderful man!

Charlie was a great coach, trainer and mentor and brought Falconbridge (now Glencore) into provincial winning form in mine rescue competitions. We hadn't won in over 20 years until Charlie raised our level to winning 3 consecutive years and building the knowledge base to a point where we could sustain ourselves. He used to say "Mine Rescue is simple - save lives, fight fires and re-ventilate the mine." Thanks Charlie. You were a huge influence on our mine rescue program but also a key person in my own personal deveopment. I will miss you. Jim Lundrigan - Chairman -Ontario Mine Rescue TAC.
